Drake Headlines Landmark Music Festival

Last Friday night Drake was the headliner at the 2015 Landmark Music Festival held at the West Potomac Park in Washington, D.C.

He performed some of his biggest hits included: “Legend“, “Trophies“, “We Made It“, “Headlines“, “Worst Behavior“, “Back To Back“, “Know Yourself“, and more.

But for some the highlight of the show was right after “Back To Back” when the crowd started to chant “fuck Meek Mill” in which Drake answered, “don’t worry, he’s dead already”.

Drake in on the cover of the October/November 2015 issue of The FADER, which be available on newsstands next month on October 27th as they celebrate their 100th issue.

Inside the magazine you’ll find an in depth interview with Drake as he talks about his work, Toronto, what he wants his legacy to be and of course his beef with Meek Mill.

Here’s a sample of what he said:

On some level, Drake’s ability to do this comes down to his ear for catchy, evocative phrases that are vague enough to be used across many contexts, but specific enough to still feel vivid and personal. But he’s also just good at reading his moment—figuring out what his fans want at any given time and delivering it on schedule.

This sense of timing turned out to be a crucial weapon for Drake this summer when he was pulled into the battle with Meek Mill. Though Drake initially seemed to ignore the surprise attack, it quickly turned into a two-week long demonstration of his skills as an entertainer and his ability to execute on them. In more dramatic fashion than ever, Drake flexed his showmanship, and made fluent use of all the communication channels that are open between him and his fans.

The conflict started when Meek Mill asserted on Twitter that Drake had someone else write his lyrics for him on a verse he had recorded for Meek’s recent album. It escalated when Hot 97 DJ Funkmaster Flex boasted that someone in Drake’s camp had provided him with multiple “reference tracks”—demos, basically, written and recorded by other rappers—that would prove that Drake made a habit of using outside writers.

Drake never spoke about the recordings directly—not even after some of them were made public. But as I prepare to raise the issue during our interview, he catches me off guard by turning to it on his own.

“I’m just gonna bring it up ‘cause it’s important to me,” he says. “I was at a charity kickball game—which we won, by the way—and my brother called me. He was just like, ‘I don’t know if you’re aware, but, yo, they’re trying to end us out here. They’re just spreading, like, propaganda. Where are you? You need to come here.’ So we all circled up at the studio, and sat there as Flex went on the air, and these guys flip-flopped [about how] they were gonna do this, that, and the third.”

Drake WINS Rap War With Meek Mill

Meek Mill has become the butt of everyone’s jokes after his poor attempt to diss Drake in raps.

The track has since been called ‘garbage’ by listeners.

It all started when Nicki Minaj’s boyfriend Meek Mill slammed Drake, claiming that he used a ghostwriter for his hit songs.

Drake has since released three new songs, one of which is clearly a diss track aimed at Meek, called Charged Up on Beats 1 OVO Sound Radio show.

In it, Drake says, “I stay silent ’cause we’re at war and I’m very patient/ 6 God is watching/ I just hope you’re prepared to face him/ I’m charged up/ Wow, I’m honored you think this is staged/ I’m flattered, man/ In fact, I’m amazed.”

Meek responded with his rap called, ‘Wanna Know’ which includes the line, ‘N****s writing for you cause you know you never did shit.’

But the overall response wasn’t great with one person writing, ‘I’m going to the Nicki Minaj concert tonight…..I wonder if Meek Mill is going to perform that “Wanna Know” garbage.’

And another wrote, “The beginning of Wanna Know was decent but as soon as Meek said ‘You really sweet, I call you buttercup’ I knew he just dug his own grave”.

Drake once supported Meek while he was in prison but they may no longer be friends after Meek took to twitter and slammed his friend.

It all seems to have started after Nicki Minaj, Meek’s girlfriend, got mad after MTV failed to nominate her Anaconda video for the Best Video Award.

About 2 hours after Nicki vented on twitter starting an exchange with Taylor Swift, Meek took to twitter and said that Drake doesn’t write his own raps.

Meek went on to say that he’s cheating and adds that he wouldn’t have asked him to guest on his recent album if he’d known sooner.

The two worked together on the track R.I.C.O from Mill’s new album Dreams Worth More Than Money, Meek started off by tweeting, ‘Stop comparing drake to me too…. He don’t write his own raps! That’s why he ain’t tweet my album because we found out!’

Meek, who’s real name is Robert Rahmeek Williams, continues with, ‘The whole game know for real they scared to tell the truth! I can’t wait to these guys and sit back and act like they don’t know!’

He continues on venting with, ‘He ain’t even write that verse on my album and if I woulda knew I woulda took it off my album….. I don’t trick my fans! Lol.’

‘If we found out jayz ain’t write his own raps that’s ok! I would prolly really cry!

Then meek brings Lil Wayne and Nicki into the fight by adding, ‘Other artist know tho? lil Wayne and Nicki know ….. Ask em they gone act like they don’t see them tweets.’

Drake is yet to respond to the tweets.
